I got a little behind on Dani's Journal Day posts over at Sometimes Sweet. But I love the topics so I figured I would play catch up!
Today's entry is about what we know for sure. She writes. "The older we get, the more certain we get about who we are and what our purpose is. For me, alot of it is still unknown, but as I make my way down my own path, I have begun to realize that there are indeed some inevitable truths that I know for sure. On your own blog, write a post that talks about 'the one thing you know for sure.'"
My life experiences have given me a strong sense of self, therefore quite a few things that I feel like I know for sure. I've learned alot of difficult lessons like where happiness comes from, & why honesty is best. I've learned how difficult relationships are & how hard work pays off. However, there is one thing that I know for surely sure.
You complete yourself. You must complete yourself. Fill yourself up. You must give yourself as much love as humanly possible simply because you deserve it. No friendship, romantic relationship or love from any one else will ever "complete you". If you're expecting a relationship to fill a void you might have or give you feelings that you cannot make for yourself, then you are in that relationship for all the wrong reasons. You must first complete yourself. Be your bestfriend - your number one - your everything. When you do those things for yourself, your relationships become instantly more satisfying. You are able to appreciate the person standing in front of you for exactly who they are, not what they can do for you. You aren't lowering your expectations, you are simply stating, "I don't need you here. I want you here." A statement that I believe is far more powerful than simply, "I need you."
I've always been a strong believer of knowing exactly who you are, what you want, & where you're going before entering into a romantic relationship. I cannot say that I practiced this idea in my last relationship but this I know for sure...I will next time.
What do you know for sure?
