An Update

I don't understand where the days go! They seem to drag on forever as I'm going through the motions but then all of the sudden its been almost two weeks since I've had any time to use the interwebz! Crazy.

Well, here I am. My 30 Day Detox has come to a close (officially on the 22nd) & boy, am I glad I did it! I can't say I accomplished all the goals I set out for myself but I'm very proud of my current mindset. Alot changed in these past 30 days & alot of it has to do with positive attitude which seems to carry me through the rough days.

I did not complete 20 workouts or plan&prepare 3 real dinners for myself. I did however drink alot more water & eat alot more veggies! Eating breakfast at home was a bust too so I'll just have to refocus. I found a place to live in Nashville. WOOP! I'll be moving into my new house on August 6th. It's an adorable house in 12th South. Just a few blocks from my favorite restaurant & favorite bar. What a steal! I'll be living with two of my bestfriends & I am really looking forward to it. Moving always feels like a fresh start. Can't wait...!
I haven't visited Cheekwood yet, but it's on my social calendar, which means it will be happening in the near future! I also didn't purchase a new record player but that's because I figured out how to fix the current one that I have. I did manage to sustain from negative tweeting for 30 days, which I'll be continuing because I love it!

I've decided to write up a whole new set of challenges for myself for the next 30 days. I plan on doing this every month. I'll give myself 4 new goals to accomplish each time. This way I won't feel overwhelmed with having too many tasks to complete. They will range anywhere from fitness goals to social goals as well as everything in between. & hopefully I'll be blogging more! I do so many fun things during the week that I would love to share. I just have to get better about carrying my camera around...but I'm determined!

Come back tomorrow for my list of goals.

What are your goals for the next 30 days?

30 Day Detox : An Update

I am 17 days into my 30 Day Detox challenge, so I thought I'd do a little update!
Things have been going well. I wish I could say I'm half way to accomplishing every goal, but such is life! As much as I love setting goals, I also think it is important to take every day as it comes. & sometimes, life just doesn't go how you plan. What can ya do, really?

I have accomplished a few things though! See my original list of goals here.
1. I've been spending MUCH more time outside that I usually do. Outdoor concerts, afternoon jogs, lots of cookouts & pool time, eating outside at restaurants, etc etc etc. My job has also allowed me to be outside alot in these past couple of weeks. I'm loving my new tan.
2. I've been drinking ALOT more water. Because I've been outside so much, my water intake has increased significantly. I can definitely see a change in my skin. It's been clearer & more smooth.
3. I've allowed time for myself to eat breakfast at home a few times. However, I haven't managed to plan & cook any real meals for myself. I've whipped up a few things but I'd hardly call it a meal...
4. I've been doing great in the mental department. I've been extremely confident in these past couple of weeks & very happy with the direction my life is going. My confidence got a bit shaken up this past week when we lost an old family friend to suicide. My heart is so broken for the family this man left behind. I've tried to stay positive through the whole ordeal but it's been challenging. I'm just so glad I got to be there for my friends to show my love & support. What a terrible thing to go through.

I still have alot ahead of me! I need to increase my workouts because I've been slacking a bit. I'm still looking for a place to live. I haven't purchased that new record player yet or gone to Cheekwood, but they're on my to-do list! I also need to get to cookin' in the kitchen.

So, here's to the next 13 days! Let's kick some challenge ass!

MY SO CALLED LIFE

I never dreamed of a day where my Saturdays would be spent at bike shows. Throwing back beers with bearded guys three times my age, who wear John Deere overalls under their Harley-Davidson leather vests. Yep. I saw it.

My life has recently become a mash-up of iron & ink, beards & bikes, american pride* & a southern state of mind. I'd be lying if I said these men(& women) weren't helping me heal in some weird way. They seem to have it all figured out though. It's all about how you feel when you're cruising down the highway with two wheels under you.

& isn't that just it? How you feel. It's all about how you feel.

& I feel good.

*I still remain a proud liberal democrat & a true feminist.

30 Day Detox : Goals

I officially started my 30 Day Detox yesterday.
I spent the evening doing some goal writing & planning for the summer. There alot of both minor & major changes that I want to make in my life in the next few months. I am hoping that this detox will kick start things & get my mind, body, & spirit in a position where I can tackle some BIG goals! If all goes well, I plan on turning the detox into a 30 Day Challenge. Every 30 days, I challenge myself to a list of goals & work daily to accomplish them. Overcoming challenges always gives me a huge rush & I'd like to end the summer on a good note with a proud sense of self.

The goals I've set for the 30 Day Detox are not as detailed as my challenge ones will be in the future, but my focus was to achieve an overall sense of strength & willingness at the end of these 30 days instead of having to focus on very specific challenges.

Goals {5/24/11-6/22/11}
- Body : Complete 20 workouts; Drink more water; Eat less carbs & more greens; Stop adding salts to food (OOF!); Plan & cook atleast 3 meals; Leave time in my morning routine to eat breakfast at home instead of on the road.
- Mind : Be consciously thankful every single day; Replace every negative thought with a positive one.
- Spirit : Spend more time outside; Step away from the news (my addiction); Gossip less (this includes keeping negative comments about girls who wear scrunchies to myself)

A few other (& more specific) goals:
- Find a new place in Nashville to live.
- Visit Cheekwood to see the new exhibits.
- Purchase a new record player (If you have any suggestions, let me know!)

& of course I'll be sustaining from any negative tweeting or blogging! You get what you give.

So, what do we think? Accomplishable? I think so!
& remember, you can join the 30 Day Detox whenever you'd like! Let me know if you're participating. :)

My Tweeting Hiatus (& a 30 Day Detox)

Last week, I decided to give that little blue bird the cold shoulder & it felt so good (yet so bad!). My generation has become a pool of addicts. Gadget addicts, Google addicts, social networking addicts, texting addicts, blogging addicts, complete maniacal addicts! (Not to mention those who are addicted to much worst things.)We're OBSESSED with telling each other everything. What we're eating, where we are, who we're with, how we're feeling, what we're thinking...it goes on & on & on. And these days, there are a million platforms to advertise this information.

But for what? Why do we feel so compelled to share all this information? To feel more connected to others? To start a conversation, maybe even spark an arguement? Are we starved for attention?

I've always been a fan of the online community. I had a blog before the term was coined. I had a Myspace long before many. I always used the internet to connect to others. To fill a void that was created from years of being unpopular & not having alot of friends. My life has changed alot since those days. I'm no longer the attention-starved, insecure, 15 year old that I once was (but how I wish I could relive those days!). I am surrounded by great friends, I have a great family, & my life is a true blessing. Seeking out attention from others is no longer my number one priority.

So onto the point of this post! Phew! If you made it this far, BRAVO!
I took a time out from Twitter to regroup. Reprioritize. Rethink why I use social platforms to exchange information. I realized that I was feeding off the emotions of others 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Allowing other people's thoughts to seep into my own. It was time to think for myself. Regain my sense of positivity & greatfulness because you get what you give. Negativity breathes negativity.

Kaelah shared a great idea on her blog a couple of weeks ago. The 30 Day Detox. She challenged her readers to abstain from negative tweeting & blogging for 30 days. Of course, she took it to the next level & decided to make some personal changes as well. Which is what I would like to do too!

For the next 30 days, I'm going to attempt to inspire & uplift those around me as well as accomplish a few goals. Who knows, if it goes well maybe we'll turn this into a 90-day challenge!?

Come back tomorrow for a list of my 30 Day Detox goals.

Love & light, y'all!
